Practise at the KuroyamaKai is conducted by officially recognised instructors authorised and qualified by the Australian Kendo Renmei.

Both Damon and Brendan are regular participants in national AKR seminars directed by the national technical director Oda Katsuo Sensei, 8 Dan Hanshi (Iaido) and Nagayama Kuniaki Sensei, 7 Dan Kiyoshi (Jodo). 

DAMON SCHEARER

Damon's martial arts training commenced whilst in high school where he studied kickboxing and a mix of eclectic arts under the banner of a Chow Li Fut Kung Fu club.

He initially commenced training in Iaido in 1996 briefly under the guidance of Greg Mapstone in Ipswich, Queensland and then returned to Iaido training in 1999 under the instruction of David Kolb at the Brisbane Aiki Kai.  In 2000 he took up the study of Jodo, also under David Kolb.

Through David Kolb, he has advanced his study of All Japan Kendo Renmei Iaido & Jodo and Muso Jikiden Eishin Ryu iaido.

In 2004 he travelled to Japan for the first time where he was fortunate to be able to train in Iaido with Obayashi Tadashi Sensei, 8 Dan Kiyoshi, of the Dai Ken Kyo Iaido club in Osaka, and privately in Jodo with Nagayama Kuniaki Sensei, 7 Dan Kiyoshi in Sendai, Japan.

Damon also holds yudansha grades in Aikido - a Nidan issued by the International Aikido Federation, and a Shodan issued by Shodokan (Tomiki Aikido) Hombu Dojo.

BRENDAN KEE

Brendan commenced Iaido training in early 2003 under the guidance of Ramon Lawrence and Jason Flockton, and Jodo training at the same time under Russell Lawrence as part of Curtin Budokan.

He trained regularly at both Curtin Budokan and Budokan Academy until late 2005 when he relocated to Canberra.

Brendan also holds a Shodan grade in Kendo.
